Inscribed by the author in blue ink on the title page, "To Walter/"Good Gardening"/Leon C. Snyder/May 9, 1978". A comprehensive book on gardening in Minnesota, by the most prominent and influential horticulturist and gardening educator in the state's history. Snyder spent more than two decades in the horticulture department at the University of Minnesota, was the first director of the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum, wrote a newspaper column for many years, made regular radio appearances, and led garden tours to Europe and Australia. In this book he covers the growing of fruit, vegetables, perennial flowers and landscape design. A chapter on annual flowers is also included. A second edition was published in 1985. Laid in are two newspaper clippings from the Minneapolis Star Tribune--an obituary for Snyder and a Jim Klobuchar column (whose last paragraphs are missing) about Snyder's memorial service at the arboretum.
