A handbook of varieties recommended, not recommended or under study for planting in Minnesota, the Dakotas and Montana. The publisher was a group "supported by mills, elevators, commission houses, maltster and others" whose interest was "in promoting better quality grain in the spring wheat region." The first edition appeared in 1933, and this second edition was followed by a third edition in 1949 and a fourth in 1957. Each variety receives two to four paragraphs of description and discussion, and most entries include a black-and-white photograph of an ear of that variety. Three of the entries described as under study are accompanied by handwritten updates dated 1943, one of them having been recommended and the other two not recommended. Two-page glossary; three page index of varieties. Printed in Minneapolis by the Colwell Press, Inc.
