The author was an instructor at the McPhail School of Music in Minneapolis, and the publisher was founder of the city's Schmitt Music; both organizations are still prominent in Minnesota. Laid in is an old business card of Joe Dzubay, an employee of the Standard Clothing Company at Sixth and Nicollet in Minneapolis, next door to the original Schmitt Music location and quite near the McPhail School. The signature of a previous owner, Peter J. Dzubay, is on the front free endpaper.
