Hardcover, bound in blue cloth with gold lettering on the spine, in a jacket featuring a color photograph of a view across to Bamburgh from the island of Lindisfarne. Book and jacket in very good condition. The book has two minor bumps, at the top edge of each board, and a narrow, shallow impression across the front board; the jacket has a little rubbing, an 1/8th-inch closed tear at the top of the spine, a 1-by-2-inch area on the front panel where the paper's lamination has tiny wrinkles, and a long but light scratch, corresponding to the impression on the front board, that can be seen when the book is held at a particular angle to a source of light. The translations, from Bede's Life of Cuthbert, Lives of the Abbots of Wearmouth and Jarrow, and Ecclesiastical History of the English People, are by John Gregory; the photography is by Geoff Green.
