Covers are creased and edgeworn; rear cover lightly rubbed and soiled; corners bumped, and a few pages dog-eared; but binding is strong, and contents are clean. Inscribed by the author in blue ink on the title page, "With compliments,/Wm Thomas,/author." The author, born in Dunedin in 1870, describes "over 70 years of thrilling experience as a news getter." Laid in is a one-column newspaper advertisement for the book, with comments from New Zealand newspapers and other publications; the Evening Post, for example, says that "the 90-year-old author has drawn on a wealth of memories from his early days in Dunedin to more recent times. . . . There is nothing long-winded about the author's book. He has stayed in daily journalism to the present day and his style is crisp and modern."
