The Outdoor Living Room

New York: Macmillan Company, 1932. Hardcover. 8 3/4 by 5 3/4 inches; 223 by 147 mm. xiii, 126 pages. Hardcover in fine condition, with very good jacket. End papers slightly browned. White jacket with full-color pictorial front panel has two half-inch closed tears on its upper edge, one at the spine (not affecting text) and the other at the rear flap fold. The white areas of the jacket's front panel also have a number of spots that become visible when the jacket is held at a particular angle to one's source of light, but the spots become difficult to see when the angle changes. Jacket enclosed in a clear, archival-quality, removable protective cover. Item #10

Early printing; the reverse of the title page gives 1931 as the copyright date and states "Set up and electrotyped. Published December, 1931." Normally Macmillan would have mentioned another printing if there had been one. But the title page's date of 1932 raises the possibility that it is not a first printing, and OCLC lists 1931 and 1932 copies. But for the endpapers, the book sparkles as if new. The jacket, despite the faults mentioned, is quite attractive, with bright colors and a striking overall design. The jacket's back panel lists nine other "Books for Garden Makers" published by Macmillan, with a blurb and price for each. Color frontispiece, 39 black-and-white photos, and 28 drawings.
